DAY # 4 – New Delhi (part 2)

From the Red Fort we went to visit the great mosque of Old Delhi.
Jama Masjid is the biggest and most important mosque in New Delhi, was built in the XVII century by the Emperor Shah Jahan, the same emperor that built the great Taj Mahal.




To get there from Red Fort we just walked a few hundred meters trough the Old Delhi marketplace.

The market was boiling of people, large animals, smells, vibrant colors, and lots of fruits in rugs on the floor… where occasionally one of the sacred cows would snack. Surprisingly no one care about us or tried to sell us stuff. It looked like is not one of the usual touristic areas so I felt like already belonging to the place and to the people.
It is essentially a Muslim area, and the mosque reflects the best of the Muslim and Mughal style of architecture. It stands on a hill with its innumerous wide steps which adds height and majesty to the entire structure.
Unfortunately our camera runs out of battery and I can’t share with you the splendor of the mosque.
